Don Diego, a wealthy 59-year-old gentleman, plans to marry Doña Francisca (Paquita), a young woman of 16 who was raised in a convent. The marriage is heavily pushed by Paquita’s mother, Doña Irene. Paquita secretly loves a handsome young soldier named Don Carlos—who happens to be Don Diego’s own nephew.
