Before his death, Inca Huayna Capac bequeathed the power of the empire to his eldest son, Ninan Cuyuchi, but sadly, Ninan predeceased his father, sparking a civil war for succession between his brothers Huáscar and Atahualpa. While the empire was in turmoil, a group of Spaniards arrived in Tahuantinsuyo seeking gold. They took Atahualpa hostage, who had already defeated his brother Huáscar. Having found their target, the Spaniards decided to kill him, but first attempted to collect the largest ransom ever paid in the history of the world. This event would mark the end of the Inca Empire.
