In Red Planet 3009, we explore Mars through the ‘eyes’ of the Rover Serendipity, and hear her ‘thoughts’ through her logs. We follow her searches, her discoveries, and ‘reflections’ as strange glitches, at times, show phantom structures. Severe damage after a sandstorm causes her to reboot, revealing that she has been active for centuries. The structures are ruins of a failed colonisation project. Accepting her role as a recorder, Serena activates her ‘black box’ beacon, an archive of the entire human genome, sending a final blueprint for humanity into deep space before powering down.
