Crystal mining in the 1940s gave rise to the village of São Jorge, in Goiás. With the creation of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in the 1960s, mining was banned, and ecotourism became the region's main economic activity. Photographer João Fernandes witnessed and documented this transformation, dedicating himself to making the Cerrado's natural attractions more accessible through the construction of viewpoints.
