Disappointed with his life, Mihail goes to the pharmacy to buy sublimé (mercury dichloride) to commit suicide. On the way, he meets a girl, Concetta, with her mother. Mihail falls madly in love with her and decides to follow her to Faliro. There, his suicidal tendencies resurface and he prepares to drown himself. Luckily for him, Concetta grabs him by the collar and saves him at the last moment. Mihail falls into her arms and is overcome with happiness. Suddenly, Concetta's mother appears and beats Mihail. He hides in order to escape. Conchita's mother quietly takes a boat and sets out to sea. After a while, the boatman attacks her, demanding that she give him her money. Fortunately, Mihail realizes what is happening and rushes to save the mother, who eventually takes a liking to him and gives him her daughter's hand in marriage.
