Frances is determined to escape from her brutal uncle, and runs away hidden in the Marquis of Aldeborough’s carriage. Once he discovers who she is though, it is clear that they must marry, even though they know little about each other. As their married life develops, they learn more about the problems in both of their pasts, and love starts to grow. But as strange accidents start to befall them, they must also worry about how to make their future safe.
